How to Plan a Year of Social Media Content in One Day (Yes, Really!)

Updated: 5 days ago

As busy cattery owners, we’ve all had those moments when planning social media feels like an endless task. There’s the pressure of coming up with fresh ideas, creating posts, and engaging with your audience on top of running your day-to-day business. But what if I told you that you could plan a year of social media in just one day? I know it sounds like a stretch, but trust me – it’s not only possible, it’s totally doable! With the right approach (and a little help from the 2025 Content Planner), you’ll have your social media sorted in no time.

Are you ready to transform your content into something your followers will engage with and get a year’s worth of posts done in just one day? Yeah, purrfect! Let's do this!

Step 1: Start with Your Key Dates

Before you even begin to think about writing any posts you want to grab a diary calendar (I highly recommend using the 2025 Content Planner for this) and mark down all the important dates for you and your cattery. Do you have any personal commitments, holidays or days off planned? Will you be renewing your license, sorting out your tax return or hosting an open day? All these events will have an impact on your time and availability to post on social media. Being aware of when you're going to be stretched will help you plan some content.

Now think of seasonal holidays, and special awareness days like National Cat Day or National Pet Month. Are there any special days you can post about...and not just for the sake of posting? I'm not sure your followers will care that it's National Wallpaper Day! Love Your Pet Day on the other hand is a great event to share content around.

I've made things easy for you in the 2025 content planner because I've already marked out national and themed days and other key dates so you don't have to! Plus, the monthly planners include space to add your specific events like cattery promotions or availability periods. It’s a fantastic way to visualize your year at a glance, so you know exactly what’s coming up and when.

Step 2: Tap into Your Topics and Themes

Once you’ve marked your dates, think about the themes or topics you could create some content around for each month. For example, January could focus on setting up healthy routines for your cat, while February could be all about showing your cat some love (especially on Valentine’s Day and Love Your Pet Day!). This helps give structure to your content and keeps your ideas flowing.

And guess what...in the 2025 content planner I've included 12 different themes! You can get creative and think of your own to suit you or you can save time and use one of the prepared themes each month.

Step 3: Map Out Your Content Categories

Now that you have your key dates and themes in place, it’s time to plan your content categories.

Think of categories like:

  • Educational content: Share helpful tips or interesting facts about cat care, behaviour, or health.

  • Behind-the-scenes: Give your followers a sneak peek into the daily life at your cattery. People love getting to know the faces behind the business!

  • Testimonials and reviews: Nothing builds trust faster than sharing real stories from happy clients. Your planner has space to note down reviews and photos you can use throughout the year.

  • Promotions and special offers: Let your followers know when you have availability or are offering a limited-time deal.

  • Interactive posts: Create engagement by asking questions, running polls, or simply sharing a cute cat meme!

You can have as many or as few categories as you want but it's good to have a mix. If you know how often you can realistically post you could have a different category for each of those days. For example Monday you might want to post some educational content, Wednesdays could be testimonials and Saturdays show behind the scenes. This also helps you be consistent.

Now you have a great foundation for creating your content for the year. Using your calendar, the topics and categories you've come up with you can now start to have fun and get creative. Ideally, you want a mix of content over the week or month. Don't get me wrong, everyone loves a cat photo but I'm guessing they also want to know a bit about you, what you offer and what makes you different from another local cattery.

This is where the 2025 Content Planner shines. It’s specifically designed for cattery owners like you, with over 300 prompts and suggestions. I have carefully crafted a mix of prompts around 5 different categories that are designed to get the most engagement to grow your audience and your business. Using the content categories outlined in your planner, it becomes much easier to see how you can rotate through them, keeping your social media interesting and scroll-stopping.

Step 4: Batch Create Your Content

Here’s where we get really efficient because we don't want to go to bed in a panic because we should have posted yesterday but forgot! With your dates, themes and categories mapped out, it’s time to batch-create your content. Trust me, this will be a game-changer.

Batching content is a time-saving strategy where you can create several posts in one go, ready to schedule or use at a later date.

Start by brainstorming a few posts for each category for each month, you’ll soon have the entire year done. You might want to use one longer piece of content (like a blog post or video) each month or week, based on your theme. Then you can use that cornerstone piece to create several social media posts that tie in. The 2025 Content Planner has 60 blog post suggestions, 5 for each theme, making it a breeze to pull everything together.

Let's say, during March my theme is all about kitten care, I would:

  • Write a blog post about 10 things you should know before getting a kitten,

  • Write an educational post for social media about how to introduce a kitten to a new home,

  • Go behind the scenes and share the special care I give to kittens at my cattery,

  • I could ask my followers to share pictures of their kittens (or when they got their kittens)

  • I might post a fun before and after of a cat I've looked after since being a kitten

  • And,I could show some great testimonials from happy kitten parents.

Batching my content in one go would give me fresh new content on your website with the blog (which Google loves) but I've also got a mix of 5 different social media posts that will build trust and ultimately get me some bookings!

Once you've thought about your content you can then start to think about your visuals. Canva is a great tool for creating social media posts. By batching your content, you’re saving yourself tons of time later in the year. Once it’s done, you’ll feel that weight lifting off your shoulders!

Step 5: Schedule It All

With your content written and ready, you can always schedule it all in one go for Facebook or Instagram. The beauty of having everything planned and created in one day is that you can set it and forget it. Just upload your posts, set the schedule, and watch your social media work for you.

Step 6: Review and Adjust Monthly

Even though you’ve planned a whole year in advance, it’s important to check in regularly to see what’s working. Set aside a few minutes each month to look at your insights (most social media platforms have built-in insights), and see what types of posts are working well with your audience. You might need to make small tweaks along the way, but with the bulk of the work done, any adjustments will be quick and easy.
